I've heard recently of 'mentoring' and 'e-mentoring', what are these? Many young people today need extra support to achieve their full potential. Mentoring is one way business volunteers can make a difference through being a positive role model to help raise aspirations, broaden horizons and prepare young people for the world of work.
E-volve @ NEBA is a programme whereby business volunteers communicate with young people by email to offer support as outlined above.

I'd like to work with a school. How can I get involved?
There are activities to suit every business volunteer. Getting involved is an opportunity to improve the skills of the future workforce whilst offering personal development opportunities to business volunteers such as:- communication, mentoring and team working skills which in turn helps to motivate and raise employee morale. The activities help to give students and teachers a 'business world perspective' whilst businesses get the chance to meet their corporate social responsibility objectives.
Please contact NEBA to find out how you can be involved and to discuss forthcoming activities.

Do I need to be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau before working with students in schools? This will depend upon the activities taking place. NEBA will advise if a CRB check is necessary.
|
What are 'mock interviews'? NEBA recruits business volunteers to provide students with the opportunity to practice their interview techniques with a 'real' employer through role-play. The volunteers are asked to give feedback to students on their completed application forms, CV and performance at interview.
These sessions are also beneficial for employers wishing to develop their interviewing skills.
