Young Apprenticeships
Young Apprenticeships (YAs) give motivated 14-16 year olds the opportunity to pursue industry specific applied learning programmes alongside their core curriculum studies back in school.
Each apprenticeship works towards a level 2 qualification within a specified subject area, and is required to achieve 50 days targeted work experience over the two year programme By working closely with EBF, a training provider / college and employer, the programme offers learners the opportunity to learn more about a specific area of work / sector that is of interest to them, allowing them to explore various fields of work and learn more about progression opportunities available to them post-16.
This Partnership shares the responsibility for the planning, monitoring and progress of the learner, with EBF arranging the practicalities of work experience and health and safety whilst ensuring that the programme is tailored to meet the needs of both the learners and employers involved.
Whilst the Young Apprenticeship programme offers obvious benefits for the learners there are also benefits for the employers. The scheme offers them the opportunity to work with young people at a time when they are beginning to make informed choices on a future career. This has allowed employers who have been supporting the programme for the past few years the opportunity to influence and educate young people about their own organisation and the opportunities that are available to them locally. Previous cohorts have seen some of the learners taking up a post-16 Apprenticeship, employment or further academic studies within their partnering organisation at the end of their Young Apprenticeship.
