DIPLOMA UPDATE... SPORT AND ACTIVE LEISURE

08/12/2009

The Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure (SAL) looks set to become the fastest growing Diploma line in Nottinghamshire. From September 2010 over 200 young people in Nottinghamshire will be on the course in Mansfield, Bassetlaw, Newark, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

The SAL Diploma will give young people a broad base of understanding and skills that are transferable across the wide range of sport and leisure roles and settings. Communication, teamwork, customer service, and 'people skills' are key aspects of the qualification. The Diploma could lead a young person to further and higher education and ultimately into careers including sports science, sports management, health promotion, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, dietetics or food science. It could also lead to a job as a play worker, personal trainer, head grounds keeper or youth support worker.

Employers have the opportunity to get involved with schools and young people by offering work experience placements or by passing on some industry experience in the classroom. A briefing event is being held on 2nd February 2010 at Oakmere Park Golf Club for employers. If you would like to attend or to find out more please email Sam Webster at NEBA, s.webster@neba.org.uk or telephone 01623 404345.
