Young Apprenticeships
Helping your child make the right decision about their future is a priority. The Young Apprenticeship programme offers able young people, aged 14-16, the chance to gain vocational qualifications and extended work experience in workplace settings that are of interest to them whilst still pursuing their core curriculum studies back in school.
A Young Apprentice will experience real work situations in a well planned, supported and managed environment. A group of organisations across Nottingham City and County work together to ensure the programme is managed and monitored effectively and that both the needs of the learner and employer are met. The school will still keep overall responsibility for the pupils welfare at all times and is a key partner on the Young Apprenticeship scheme.
This two year programme allows 14-16 year olds the chance to taste real work experience alongside their school studies. Selection is based on motivation, ability, behaviour and attendance, as well as having an interest within their chosen sector. Each apprentice will spend an average of two days per week on the programme, over the two year period, studying for a recognised level 2 qualification (equivalent to 4-5 GCSE’s), within their chosen area of work. The remaining three days will be spent back in their respective schools following core curriculum. The work experience that each Apprentice will achieve equates to 50 days and is arranged through the partnership.
