Diplomas
The Diploma is a new qualification for young people aged 14-19 which combines theory and practice to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to succeed in further education and their future working.
The Diploma will appeal to learners of all abilities, who like to learn about subjects in ways that relate to real life. Designed by employers, schools, colleges, universities and other partners the Diploma can take learners on to further education or the career of their choice.

Diplomas are being introduced on a rolling programme and will allow young people to combine theoretical study with practical experience. The 14 Diploma lines available by September 2010 are as follows:
September 2008
September 2009
September 2010
The Diploma will be available at three different levels:
- Foundation – equivalent to 5 GCSEs (Grades D-G)
- Higher – equivalent to 7 GCSEs (Grades A*-C)
- Advanced – equivalent to 3.5 A Levels
